What modern man is happy to hear

by

Men are only interested in beer, sex and football right? Their ideal woman is one that shuts up when the match is on, brings them a cold beer and delivers explosive sex that night. Well, if this were a 1970s sitcom, maybe.

But the fact is that the caveman stereotype no longer applies to every man, and the real problem is that modern woman hasn’t quite caught on. She still thinks modern man needs to hear certain things in order to stay happy. We say that’s rubbish. Let’s bust some myths, right here and now:

You think he wants to hear: “You are the reason I live for”
What he really wants to hear: “You mean so much to me, but I have my own life too. I am dedicated to our relationship, but it won’t come at the expense of the rest of my life.”

What you think he wants you to say: “The people who don’t understand you are idiots.”
What he really wants to hear: “I accept you. I can see the great things you’ve done with your life, and how talented you are. Yes, there are parts of your life that you’re not happy with, but everyone is the same, and that doesn’t matter to me.”

What you think he wants you to say: “You are perfection personified.”
What he really wants to hear: “You’re not perfect, because nobody is. But I understand your weaknesses and I will help you turn them into strengths, rather than exploit them.”

What you think he wants you to say: “You’re so clever. Everything you say is right.”
What he really wants to hear: “We won’t always agree, but I deeply respect your opinions, and how they play a part in our relationship. Any differences we have will be integral to helping us build our relationship into a great partnership.”

What you think he wants you to say: “In 40 years time I will be the same person you love now.”
What he really wants to hear: “As our relationship evolves, as will we. I’ll keep adapting and changing – if I didn’t you’d soon get bored of me! As we continue to improve ourselves, we’ll keep our relationship alive.”

What you think he wants you to say: “You’re the best I’ve ever had – no man has ever comes close to satisfying me in bed the way you do.”
What he really wants to hear: “You’re the best I’ve ever had – no man has ever comes close to satisfying me in bed the way you do.”

We admit defeat on this one; no man wants to hear anything other than how he’s a better lover than any of your previous boyfriends. And guys, this rule applies to women too.

Not every man you meet will be the evolved man we’re talking to here – there are still plenty of Neanderthals out there – but the evolved man exists, and now you know what he wants to hear from you.
