The one thing I am passionate about...
I care enormously about my mixed group of friends who are fun, tolerant, grounded and very inclusive. I believe in behaving with integrity. My job is fullfilling, challenging and humbling.I think I cope well with the stress it brings, hopefully without burdening those beneath me. I love to garden because there is always something changing which I will never quite master but hopefully influence in a positive way. Getting muddy also is a great antidote to being scrubbed up all day, liberating me then to enjoy many other things life has to offer, from the simple to exhilarating.I value new experiences and hope there will be lots to come
I typically spend my leisure time
Having planted pruned and generally"dug for victory" I then unwind with my big mix of friends.I swim knowing it is good for me.In the winter I like sitting by my open fire at home with whomever appreciates it too. I like dancing, big band, rock and roll, opera, silly musicals, galleries, antiques because of their social history not monetary worth, cinema, dining in and out, fresh air, walks and pottering around with anyone who feels equally comfortable doing that. I love the sea:In the summer I like to go body boarding in the shallows but sadly am not quite up to standing on a surf board with the big boys in the big waves(except in my dreams)
The most influential person in my life has been
That they behave with integrity, be comfortable in their own skin, discerning and thoughtful.Life is so short and we never know what is coming round the corner so someone who aims to have fun but knows how to prioritise and when to knuckle under. Basically a proper grown up friend.. Anyone with a dry wit who can tolerate cold toes would be a real bonus.
The first thing people notice about me
Straw poll says warm and open but I suspect this varies, depending on the setting, how much knowledge someone already has, and to some extent, what they expect to see.
The last book I read and enjoyed
not so much of a book worm these days; the day job can be heavy with the human condition so am tending to unwind with less introspective hobbies. Did however enjoy The Piano Tuner by Daniel Mason when strapped down on a plane to Malaysia. Felt like a short flight.Kept me quiet and out of mischief.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- lovely family and friends of various ages and backgrounds who never cease to surprise me with their kindness
- good health
- opportunities and the wisdom not to take good things for granted
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
If I frown it's because I am listening hard, thinking, trying to work out a solution; not because I'm scary, cross or even mildly irritated. I am really very good natured.
Friends Describe me as
Kind, Loyal, Modest, Thoughtful
A little more about me
I enjoy learning ,am open to new ideas and can laugh at myself in the process.I'm gentle but tenacious with it.I avoid people who aren't genuine. I dont like spin or arrogance. Having nothing to prove, and seeing myself as being very lucky, I get a buzz from seeing others empowered, happy, succeed in their own right and surprise themselves.Being a mum has been the greatest privilege. Out of necessity I'm pretty organised and practical. My family commitments aren't quite so great as they used to be and with their full backing, I'm beginning to see more of the world and generally do a little more for myself.
