The one thing I am passionate about...
My main passion in life is the outdoors - wild mountain tops, summer storms, historic cities, quiet Mediterranean beaches, rural France. I love spending time walking in the forest, or through grassy meadows, on coastal paths or most of all among the mountains. Having once worked in a camping shop I have spent many years climbing mountains, rock climbing and camping all over the UK and further afield. I am also very interested in history, mainly medieval through to the Tudors, and consider a day out to a National Trust property a favourite way to spend a summer?s day.
I typically spend my leisure time
If sat in at home then I enjoy nothing more than to read a good book, perhaps something by Charles Dickens or a gritty, historical novel. However, I much prefer being outside and nothing beats a week spent walking in the Lake District, a weekend exploring an historic city, castles or country houses or a holiday driving round rural France. I also like to relax by going for a swim at the gym, shooting my longbow on a local estate, a nice walk in the forest, spending time with my parents or occasionally going horseriding with my neighbours.
The most influential person in my life has been
Above all I am looking for someone who is fun and adventurous, who puts experiences above possessions and who will be my best friend as well as my committed partner. Someone who is as much at home slumming it in a tent as they are enjoying a nice hotel room on a romantic city break. Someone who isn't afraid to show their affection for me in public; who is warm and caring, honest and open, sexy and flirty. Someone who will add to me and fit me like a jigsaw piece while also having their own life and interests.
The first thing people notice about me
I guess you should be asking them this question and not me! However, I would guess it is my friendly disposition and willingness to listen and be genuinely interested. I always try to put others before myself, to be a loyal friend and be there when needed.
The last book I read and enjoyed
I'm currently reading South Col by Wilfred Noyce, which gives a wonderful "behind the scenes" perspective of the first ascent of Everest in 1953. Unlike most mountaineering books which follow the exploits of the leaders to the top, this book gives plenty of space to the mundane, everyday aspect of climbing the mountain, from someone who didn't summit but who gave his all as a vital team member to make it possible so others could. I'm really enjoying every page.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- A warm, loving family and plenty of good friends.
- My health
- A good job and a nice house.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I can sometimes come across as a bit shy and reserved, but once I get to know someone I very soon relax. I love good conversation and being active. Living life to the full and having fun with the person I am dating. I guess I am a bit old school as I enjoy being tactile and holding hands and kissing. Opening doors and buying flowers and saying "I love you", or giving compliments when they are not sought after.
