You wouldn’t normally want your first date to be called a natural disaster. Or the location to be named after one either. But for eHarmony couple Bonnie and Steve, the Tsunami restaurant in Clapham provided one of their best dates ever.
“We started off at the bar and had a couple of cocktails. The bartender knew his drinks inside out, so we both had cocktails created for us – a great talking point and fun to try,” Bonnie says. “The lighting in there was really dim and romantic too, so you feel warm and cosy with such a nice buzz in the air. Plus, the food was delicious and we ended up sharing lots of dishes between us. All in all, wonderful and highly recommended.”
Serving traditional Japanese classics, alongside a few contemporary offers like ‘new-style’ salmon sashimi – seared in olive oil and drizzled with ponzu sauce. It’s great if you love your fish raw, or if you prefer it to have met a pan before it meets you – safeguarding any uncomfortable declarations when the menu arrives.
Besides sushi, there are plenty of hot meals too, from truffle rib-eye to steamed sea bass with a sake and soya sauce. Best of all, their dishes are intended for grazing and sharing, so picking your food isn’t the high-pressure solitary activity it usually is, and a great way to get talking. Not to mention, you might even have a romantic moment when you both reach for the last edamame.
