Are you really ready to start dating again?
Jo Middleton shares her top tips on how to show your date you like them without the big romantic gestures
After a serious break-up, dating someone new might be the last thing on your mind. However, time does heal most wounds, and eventually you might be considering going back out into the big bad world of dating.
Worrying if you’re ready to take the plunge or not? We’ve put together a few questions that you might want to ask yourself to see if you are ready to start dating again.
Do you feel like yourself again?
People change in relationships, for better or for worse. Your ex will probably have changed you, even if only slightly, and you will need to rediscover who you are without that relationship and become your own person again. If you do feel like a whole, self-assured person as a single unit again, then it may be the right time for you to branch out and meet someone new.
Do you feel guilty?
If the thought of going out with someone else makes you feel guilty or like you are betraying your ex, this is completely normal, but it probably means that you aren’t quite ready to move on. It’s usually not worth making yourself feel bad just for the sake of a date. If you notice that you are starting to feel more positive about dating without any of the guilt, it might be time to start dating again.
Do you think you can trust someone again?
If your ex broke your heart or betrayed you, it can be hard to feel like you can trust someone again after a breakup. If you feel like you might be able to trust someone again if you met someone you wanted to be with, you’re probably ready to start a new, healthy relationship. If you’re still hurting from your break up, it will only sabotage any new relationship you have, so make sure you are ready before pursuing anything.
Do you FEEL ready?
Even after asking yourself all of these questions, you need to trust your judgement to know if you’re really ready. If thinking about dating people makes you feel anxious, scared or intimidated then concentrate on yourself for a while and check back in a few weeks. However, if the thought of meeting something new makes you happy, excited and optimistic for the future then chances are, you’re ready to give love a try.
