Dating Fashion Advice for the Festive Season
Knowing what to wear on dates can be a tricky business. On more occasions than we care to admit, we‘ve all had that mad panic thinking we’ve got nothing to wear. But fear not, we’ve got some advice from the team at SalesGossip, experts in fashion trends and promotions. They’re huge fans of personal style and they know what to wear right now so with their tips, you’ll feel like you, at your very best.
These are often the most stressful – but also the most fun! There is nothing more exciting than a first date, and that includes the outfit prep beforehand. Having the right outfit can project what kind of person you want to be perceived as. If you’re a Christmas lover (as we definitely are), then what about a Christmas jumper? Obviously, if this isn’t your style then don’t feel the need to wear one; it’s all about your own personal choices.
Ladies – a dress is always a great choice. It doesn’t matter whether it’s dinner at a smart restaurant, or a picnic in the park, you’ll find a dress that works for all occasions.
Guys- tartan and plaid trousers are so on trend right now, and if you’re looking into picking up a pair, we suggest going for a red hue, in keeping with the festive season and all! If you’re not a tartan fan you cannot go wrong with the classic pairing of a shirt and chinos. They work for every occasion and always look smart. If you’ve opted for a casual date, then a well-fitting pair of jeans will be your best friend, and since it’s so cold right now, an item of knitwear is a must.
Meeting the Parents
So you’ve got to know each other and things are going great. Now it’s officially time to meet the parents. Since Christmas is so family-orientated, it might even be more relatives but that’s okay.
Girls, don’t be tempted to over-do it because once they’ve met you, it’s often expected that your following outfits will be similar to the one they met you in, even if you are just going round to watch Downton. Jeans are completely fine, but it’s a wise idea to dress them up slightly with your choice of tops. A blouse is always a safe bet.
And guys, we know a girl’s father is always hard to impress, so you’re going to have to look semi-smart for this relationship milestone. Choosing one of your smartest shirts is definitely your best option and then perhaps include a blazer. It’s more relaxed than a suit jacket, but still smart enough to give off the right impression.
This is a slightly easier date to prepare for, because you’ll just be updating whatever you wore to work all day!
Ladies, your work dress will work perfectly for this rendezvous. Don’t panic if it’s black – black doesn’t mean boring. The most essential part of your outfit here are your accessories. A small clutch bag and some pretty jewellery really brings this outfit out of the office and into the date. Shoes are also a vital consideration for this date. If you’re going for drinks, chances are wherever you go will be heaving, so heels might not be your best option, unless you really can stand in them all night!
Men – blazers are an absolute staple for this date because they work so well for both the office and your date location. If you don’t want to give off too much of an officey vibe then we suggest jazzing your shirt up a bit – a slightly bolder colour, or even a subtle print. And make sure you don’t forget a scarf and gloves for the walk to the bus stop/tube station/front door (*delete as appropriate). There’s nothing worse than trying to have a conversation when all you can hear is your own teeth chattering…
Date fashion can be tricky, but as long as you’re comfortable in what you’re wearing then you’re going to be comfortable on your date. It’s essential to wear something that reflects who you are!
