Why should you consider paying for a dating site?

So, I’m glad that you asked me this question as I’m not actually an eHarmony employee so I can give you an impartial answer! As an independent dating expert, this is something that I get asked a lot – many people want to know whether they should be paying for online dating or not.
And my answer? Well, it depends what you’re looking for. The benefit of paying for an online dating site it that it’s more likely that the people you meet on the site are paying too. Why is that important? It’s an early indicator of how serious the other person is about actually finding a relationship.
The reality of dating today is that there are lots of different options available, and many of those options are free and extremely easy to join. In my experience, the quicker the sign up process – and the less a site costs to join – the less serious the majority of its members are. Free apps are often populated by people who are just looking for an ego boost or something quite casual, whereas those daters who are keen to invest in a long-term relationship are often also willing to invest their cash.
In reality, it’s unlikely that someone is going to pay money every month to feel that other people fancy them or to just hook up with people. Not when there are a host of free sites and apps that they can use for those purposes.
For the most part, those using paid dating sites have more serious, long-term intentions, which is obviously a good thing if you’re also looking to settle down or find a life partner.
The other benefit of a subscription site is that the website doesn’t have to make its money elsewhere, so you won’t be spammed with pop-up ads or need to worry that your data is being used for other purposes.
