Why are Trapeze and eharmony launching this competition?

Trapeze and eharmony are thrilled to provide a unique opportunity for aspiring writers who want to write an original and exciting love story. The competition seeks to launch a new voice in fiction, find a great love story, and celebrate the diversity of relationships.

How much do I need to write for the short bio?

We expect to receive no more than half a side of A4.

How do you define a new talent?

We are looking for new writers who have not yet published their story through a traditional publisher, or who already have an agent.

What if I’ve self-published a novel?

We can accept a writer who has self-published whether this was fiction or non-fiction, but the work submitted must be new.

Do I need to have finished my novel to enter the competition?

No. We are only asking for 5,000 words of a novel plus a 500-word synopsis.

When would I need to complete the novel submitted?

As outlined in the Terms and Conditions, we aim for the final draft to be complete within six months from winning the competition.

Do I automatically receive the £10,000 award?

No – in order to receive the £10,000 award, the winner of the competition will sign a contract between themselves and Trapeze, which outlines the terms and conditions of a publishing contract.

What if I need more than three hours of mentoring?

Anna Stuart has kindly agreed to 3 hours of mentoring. This agreement forms part of the terms and conditions outlined in the winner’s publishing contract. You will also receive one to one editorial feedback from the Orion team as part of the publishing process.

What if I miss the deadline?

Writers must submit the first 5,000 words of a novel, a 500-word synopsis plus a short bio to lovestories@orionbooks.co.uk by midnight on Monday 30 July 2018. We can only accept entries sent to this email address by the deadline.
