Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh
Anyone who’s read the best-seller One Day will remember Arthur’s Seat as the place where the story really starts. Geologists know the huge hill as a 350 million year old extinct volcano, but for Roz, who met her Zak through eHarmony, it’s the best place in Edinburgh for a first date.
“I find it stressful sitting in a café trying to make conversation, so an activity based date suits me better,” she says. “I like it because you can’t walk up a hill in high heels which removes some of the ‘dress to the nines’ mentality, so you get to see a more natural version of people.”
However you find the walk up, at 822ft above the city, you won’t regret the climb. The views are second to none – you’ll be able to see Edinburgh Castle and the Scottish Parliament as well as the city below. If you’ve still got energy afterwards, you can easily follow in Roz’s footsteps and explore the city or collapse into a local café.
And ladies, if you find yourself there on May Day, you may want to save a little morning dew – girls once bathed their faces in it, believing it made them more beautiful.
