Botanical Gardens, Sheffield
It’s impossible to know how many first dates the Sheffield Botanical Gardens may have hosted. But since it opened in 1836, we’re sure it’s a fair few. One of the many couples to grace (and love) the 19 acre gardens was eHarmony’s David and Joanna.
“It’s perfect for those that are a little more interested in good conversation,” says Joanna. “The park’s café is a great place for coffee, or as it’s licensed – a glass of wine. Plus, they have events throughout the summer too.”
The Curator’s House Café Bistro has a great location overlooking the gardens, so if you prefer to see the outdoors from a position of warmth, then it’s ideal. Otherwise, the Botanical Gardens, with a recent £6.69 million restoration boost, are well worth a visit. They’re home to plants from all over the world, as well as the largest collection of listed buildings in a Sheffield garden – like the beautiful Grade II Glass Pavilions which were reopened by the HRH Prince of Wales in 2003. On a side note, these are also open for weddings, just in case it’s love at first sight.
With so much on offer, it is no surprise that the Gardens have won four Green Flag awards as well as gold medals from the ‘Yorkshire in Bloom’ awards.
If you take David and Joanna’s first date advice and want to start off with a drink in The Curator’s House, you can book a table or see what else you fancy on their website – www.curatorshouse.co.uk. Also, find out more about the Gardens on their website – www.sbg.org.uk.
