Cafe Concerto, York
If Shakespeare had it right, and music is the food of love, then it’s probably good luck to start your relationship at a place called Café Concerto. And this little café, located in the heart of York, certainly lives up to its name – with walls papered in sheet music and instruments hanging in the place of artwork.
But it’s more than just the decor that’s kept this café in business for over 17 years. By all accounts, including a special mention from eHarmony’s Deborah, the food is second to none. Home cooked and locally sourced, neither of you will be tempted to commit a first-date faux-pas and stick with a salad. Instead, you can give their famous tomato soup a try or go gastro with a full three course meal. You can even start things a little slower as they’re happy to welcome you in for just a cup of coffee too.
If the music-theme and the food aren’t persuasive enough, Café Concerto happens to be opposite the largest gothic cathedral this side of Northern Europe. With turrets and spires fit for a fairytale, York Minster makes for a romantic first-date backdrop and an even more romantic after-dinner destination. And if everything has gone particularly well, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better location for a first kiss than the top of York Minster’s central tower.
And if, like Deborah, your date goes so well that you end up married, there’s even a special deluxe apartment run by the owners of Café Concerto that’ll be perfect for future anniversary celebrations.
