Clumber Park, Worksop
Who wouldn’t love a little moral support on their first date? And lucky for Mark, who met his partner Stella on eHarmony, he got to take his best friend along too when they met at Clumber Park. Although it does help if you’re both animal lovers, and your chaperone is of the canine variety.
With or without a dog, you can explore Clumber Park’s 3,800 acres with one of their downloadable walks – taking you over countryside, farmland, woodland and heathland, so there’s something new to see at every turn. Starting from just 1.5 miles, you don’t need to be a seasoned trekker to enjoy yourself.
As you work up an appetite, you’ll find plenty of places to take a rest and get a bite to eat on the way. “It’s got a lovely restaurant,” says Mark. Although it’s no surprise – The Clumber Park Café gives you a real taste of the countryside, using ingredients grown in the Walled Kitchen Gardens. Which also makes a great place to visit after your food, where you can see hundreds of varieties of fruit, veg and herbs as well as a carefully tended rose garden.
If walking isn’t your thing, you can always take a turn in the sheltered ‘Pleasure Ground’ or unroll a picnic blanket by the lake. Plus, Clumber has a dedicated BBQ site if you fancy eating something a little more substantial.
Finally, animal lovers really will enjoy Clumber, as it’s home to hundreds of varieties of wildlife – from birds to butterflies. Keep your eyes open as you walk, or join one of the scheduled walks – like the evening owl walk, a great end to your date at Clumber Park.
Find our what’s on or download one of their walks on their website – www.nationaltrust.org.uk/clumber-park or call 01909 544917.
