Dunham Massey Hall and Gardens, Altrincham
Take some inspiration from the old romantics and get to know each other by the lawns and lakes of a country manor. A visit to Dunham Massey and its beautiful park is ideal not just for lovers of the great outdoors, but anyone looking for a first date with a difference.
You needn’t worry if it’s not the height of summer – from the last show of autumnal colour to the first sight of spring flowers, there’s something to see whatever the season. And with deer to spot and ducks to feed, you won’t struggle for things to talk about either. Otherwise, start with the guided tour at 1.30pm – with details on the park’s wildlife and the Hall’s rich history, it’s a sure-fire way to break the ice. If the weather takes a turn for the worse, you can always take refuge in the Stable Restaurant and continue your date over a cake and pot of tea.
This approach doesn’t just work for Lords and Ladies; it worked for eHarmony’s Pauline and Kevin on their first date too. “We walked and talked all day until the park actually closed,” she says. “Neither of us wanting to leave.”
Finally, if things end up going really, really well, Dunham Massey also doubles as a wedding venue.
But a little first date advice, you might want to keep that one quiet until the second date.
