Hollingworth Lake, Rochdale

Hollingworth Lake
One of the great things about online dating is that you’ll have had time to find out which interests you share. And if it’s beautiful countryside and the tranquillity of water, then follow eHarmony couple Steve and Beverley and meet for a walk around Hollingworth Lake.

“Having spoken to each other on the telephone for a couple of weeks, Beverley knew that I loved the outdoors, countryside, lakes and loved walking,” Steve explains. “And as soon as I arrived at Hollingworth Lake (early of course) I saw that her meeting point was exactly what I would have chosen myself. And of course it helped that there was a nice restaurant and pub nearby.”

Once voted one of the top ten country parks in England, the 2.5 mile walk around the lake makes for a picturesque start to a relationship. And you don’t need to be a seasoned walker like Steve to enjoy it either – it’ll only take you about an hour at a normal walking pace.

The path passes by a nature reserve too, so bird-watchers might want to bring their binoculars. Or if you’re after something a little more extreme, there’s a water sports centre for you to try your hand at sailing, windsurfing, canoeing or rafting. Prefer to stay dry on your first date? Summer visitors can hire a rowing boat and explore the lake from the water.

Give the Hollingworth Visitor Centre a call for more information or to book your rowing boat on 01706 373421.
