Kew the Movies, Open Air Cinema
We know we’re famous for our wet weather, but the sun does shine sometimes, and when it does, no one wants to be stuck indoors. Luckily, Kew has come to the rescue with a pop-up open-air cinema located in their beautiful botanical gardens.
So if you’re planning a summer-time date, there’s nowhere better than Kew the Movies if you ask eHarmony’s Naomi, who met up with her date Brian there. Run by The Luna Cinema, their screenings follow a simple formula – a classic film on a big screen in a standout venue. They’ve featured everything from the Rocky Horror Show to Dirty Dancing so far, and 2014 will be sure to bring another set of film-favourites.
Spread out over a carefully tendered lawn with Kew Palace in the background, it’s a pretty amazing setting for a first date. And the icing on the cake? You can bring your own picnics too, so you’ll be able to impress your date like Brian with your food as well as your knowledge of London’s best nights out. “It was my favourite date,” says Naomi. “We saw Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Brian made a picnic for us. It was such a great thing to do and we both really enjoyed it – so much so, we repeated it a couple of times this summer!” Or if you’d rather leave the catering to the professionals, you can always order a special Kew Gardens picnic hamper to collect when you get there.
Plan your visit to Kew (their gardens make a great London first date location in their own right) or sign up to their movie mailing list on www.kew.org. It’s a short run at Kew, so if you miss their showings, check out The Luna Cinema’s website for their full line up of pop-up cinemas and screenings – www.thelunacinema.com.
