Great Date Guide: Leighton House Museum, London
Looking for a great date with an artistic twist? London’s Leighton House Museum is one of the most romantic date venues in the city
Located on the edge of Holland Park in London, Leighton House Museum is an easy place to fall in love with. This unique museum is an ideal date spot, whether it’s still early days or you’re in a long-term relationship – especially if one, or both of you, are passionate art fans. In fact, the museum has been voted the most romantic in the country by eHarmony UK and Art Fund users.
Leighton House is the former home of Victorian artist Frederic, Lord Leighton. His ‘studio house’ was built to his exact requirements and stands out from similar artists’ homes in the area thanks to its opulent interior. The ‘private palace of art’ even received the royal seal of approval when Queen Victoria paid Leighton a visit in 1859. Today, visitors can follow in her footsteps, touring Leighton House’s exquisitely decorated rooms, the artist’s studio, and a host of paintings and sculpture by Leighton and his contemporaries.
But the highlight of the Leighton House Museum – in our opinion – is the spectacular Arab Hall. With its golden domed ceiling, intricate mosaics and walls covered with Islamic tiles, the hall is bound to impress even the most demanding of dates. And if you do fall for Leighton House Museum’s charms (and your date goes well too) then it’s also worth bearing mind that the house also makes a great wedding venue!
Leighton House Museum opens daily from 10am to 5.30pm, except Tuesdays, with tickets available on the door.
