Everyone wants their first date to have a little magic. But if wands, rabbits and sleeve bouquets aren’t your thing, then take eHarmony couple Anne and Tom’s date advice and pick a location with a little magic in its past.

“St. Nectan’s Glen in Cornwall is a magical place to spend time together,” says Tom. “We walked through the beautiful river valley to a hidden glen complete with waterfall and cream teas.”

Appointed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and an indisputable area of outstanding natural beauty, it’s easy to see why Tom and Anne recommend St. Nectan’s. Steeped in folklore and legend, there’s a little more on offer than rare plants and a magnificent 60 foot waterfall.

In fact, you won’t be the first people to believe in the spiritual power of the place – you’ll find ribbons, crystals, photos, prayers and inscriptions hanging on the bushes and rock walls beside the waterfall. You could even leave a little something behind too, if you fancy it – a great anniversary tradition if things go really well.

Reward yourselves after your walk with a treat in the St. Nectan’s Glen café. Follow Tom’s advice with a cream tea or go for something more substantial like soup and a warm buttered roll. If you get lucky with the weather, pick a table in their beautiful garden overlooking the river and surrounded by the sound of birds and water. It doesn’t get much more magical than that!

Start your visit with a look at their site, or give the custodian a call on 01840 779538.
