If you like trying new cuisines or are already a fan of Moroccan dining, then trust eHarmony’s Wendy and Alexander when they say Balham’s Tagine is the place to go.
“I’d been there before and loved it,” Wendy says. “It’s a really pretty, beautiful little place, intimate, good food and great atmosphere. And I wanted to share it with someone I knew would appreciate it too.”
It’s more than just the venue that you get to share at Tagine, from the outdoor shisha pipes to the tasty Mezze platters, it’s a collaborative experience all round. If you’re familiar with Moroccan cuisine, you’ll look forward to the authentic home-made tagine, couscous and Meshwi – a real speciality, involving a shoulder of lamb cooked slowly overnight and shared between two.
In-keeping with tradition, they don’t serve any alcohol, but you’re welcome to bring your own – a nice way to customise your date and bring something personal to the table. And if you’d rather stay teetotal, they’ve got a wide range of non-alcoholic cocktails to tempt you.
You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a Berber camp when you enter, with traditional Moroccan-themed decor and ambient lighting. If you don’t fancy dinner, but love the dim lights and Morrocan mood, you can always take advantage of their downstairs basement lounge instead. For a true Moroccan finish, try a little fruit-flavoured shisha underneath their outdoor heaters, add a glass of sweet mint tea and you’ll never believe you’re still in South London.
Pick your dish in advance or listen to some traditional music on the Tagine website – www.zizoutagine.com.
