The Abingdon Restaurant, Kensington
The Abingdon may look like any other up-market London pub from the outside but inside you’ll find a warm, family-run restaurant that’s become a neighbourhood favourite since its opening in 1998.
With a regularly changing but consistently mouthwatering menu, even opting for a salad doesn’t mean quite the same as it does elsewhere – here it comes with caramelised bacon, crostini and parmesan shavings. Carnivores can re-create a Lady and the Tramp moment with the pave steak to share and dessert lovers will be happy to hear that their sticky toffee pudding is apparently ‘one of the best in the world’.
There are three options for seating – the bar, the restaurant and their booths. And if you do go for one of the eight intimate booths at the back, you might end up rubbing shoulders with the stars – we’ve heard they’re a celebrity favourite.
It served eHarmony couple Tania and Pete well on their first date too – “The food and ambience were fabulous,” says Tania. “It has lovely Art-Deco details and the staff were so friendly, we’ve been back many times since.”
You can take a peek at their current menu on their website – www.theabingdon.co.uk or book your booth by calling 0207 937 3339.
