The Alma Pub, Wandsworth
Once just the neighbourhood local, The Alma has given itself a little edge by adding 23 boutique-style hotel rooms to its offering. That’s not to say you should book yourself a room (it might look a little keen) for your first date, but it does mean that it’s become a cool first date location for dinner or drinks in South London.
“It has an amazing fireplace and amazing food,” say eHarmony couple Russell and Kate, “so if you’re lucky enough to bag the chairs just in front of the fire you can settle in for a whole afternoon or evening of cosy drinks and comfort food.”
The Alma’s new goal is to provide its visitors with a home from home – just what you need to put yourself at ease and kill first date nerves. Located right opposite the station on a leafy street full of character – it’s easy to get to and makes a good first impression when you arrive.
The food is pub-grub, but with its posh hat on – dishes range from pork belly with English scallops and pea pesto, to 21-day aged steaks. Vegetarians might want to try the butternut squash ravioli or save space for an apple and mixed berry crumble.
And because the last thing you want is for one of you to get sick after your date, you’ll be happy to know they’ve been awarded a 5 star food hygiene rating. So for local ales, local visitors and traditional pub food with a twist, give The Alma a call on 020 8870 2537, or check their website – www.almawandsworth.com.
