The thing I think most about my partner is…
How often do you see the person you’re dating / in a relationship with?
How many times a day do you text the person you’re dating / in a relationship with?
In an average month, how much would you say you spend on new clothes?
You’re in stage… Butterflies!
Your partner is all you can think about and you find yourself frequently checking your phone, email and social channels to see if they’ve been in touch. You are much more aware of yourself and your own image than normal – buying new clothes and double-checking your Facebook photos. Physically at this stage you may feel energised, have a rise in libido and have difficulty concentrating on anything other than the person that you are falling for.
You’re in stage… Building!
You made it to stage 2 and by now you’ve developed a deep physical attraction to your partner. You’ll want to find everything out about your partner – this includes meeting friends (and potentially family too). Physically at this stage there is a sense of ‘happy anxiety’. Your partner is constantly on your mind. You have a nervous energy that makes you feel unable to really relax or think about anything else, which may even affect sleeping and eating patterns.
You’re in stage… Assimilation!
You made it to stage 3! This means that by now you’re working out if this is the right relationship for you and how you’ll assimilate into each other’s lives. Despite your differences, do you understand each other? Do you share core beliefs, and how can you find compromises? Is the person spending enough time with me, and is this what I really want? This stage is a little less manic than previous ones but you’ll probably crave asking friends and family how things work in their relationships.
You’re in stage… Honesty!
Stage 4 is where the games finally end and you show each other the real you – your vulnerabilities that you hide from the world, and reveal yourself ‘warts and all’. This is where you ‘cut the BS’ and lay yourself fully on the line, which is necessary to form a deep bond with each other. There’s a complete feeling of comfort, happiness and a sense of being in the here and now, you still get butterflies but these ones are accompanied by a sense of deeper connection.
You’re in stage… Stability!
Stage 5 – the final stage of love! It’s here where deeper bonds are made and ideas about a shared future are constructed. Decision making is easier now and there’s a sense of comfort and safety between you two. You’ll have a deeper sense of happiness about who you are as a couple than at any other stage.
