eharmony Love Stories: Jo and Myles
Jo and Myles met on eharmony in 2014 and married in September 2016. Here they talk us through their love story
‘I was single for about two and a half years after ending a difficult relationship. A friend had had success using eharmony and recommended I give it a go. I’d tried a couple of other online dating sites, but I liked the fact that eharmony was more mature and targeted.
Myles’s profile stood out straightaway; he seemed adventurous, well-travelled and sporty – someone who really lives life. We both felt we had an instant connection and we only spoke for a couple of weeks before deciding to meet up.
After our third date – which turned into a long-weekend – we started staying at each other’s places most nights, and we moved in together after two months. Myles met my friends after our third date and proceeded to get extremely drunk on vodka (to be fair, he joined the party a little late and was playing catch-up). I ended up having to nurse him for two hours in the bathroom…
I wasn’t expecting the proposal to come so soon – and Myles couldn’t have chosen a less glamorous moment! After our cycle ride to the coast I had no make-up on, my hair was scraped off my face, and I had snot dripping off my nose. Happily, the wedding was a lot more stylish and we married in a picturesque spot in the Tuscan hills.
In five years’ time, I hope we’ll be living somewhere warm, running our own businesses, and raising a young family.’
‘I decided to sign up for eharmony after being single for about 18 months – I thought it might be fun! I’d been on Tinder and MySingleFriend and enjoyed them, but I found it difficult to find someone that I genuinely clicked with. The psychological matching part of eharmony also appealed to me.
I remember Jo’s profile saying that she spoke Italian and she had a photo of a sign that read, ‘Life is full of moments. €0’ – I was intrigued.
We had our first date at a pub near Jo’s work in Kent. It was pretty much in the middle of nowhere but had great food! We had dinner, a couple of glasses of wine, and plenty of conversation. There was some awkwardness though when we bumped into one of the senior directors of Jo’s work!
I think we both knew early on that our relationship had potential. Our first date had been just before Christmas, so we met again after the holiday and headed off on a long-weekend away a few days later.
When I decided to propose, I hated carrying the ring around! I was excited to finally hand it over and not have the responsibility of carrying something so expensive anymore. We’re both sporty and love the outdoors so we decided to cycle about 60km to Eastbourne to have some fish and chips on the beach. After we’d finished our meal, I got down on one knee and popped the question (not recommended on a pebble beach!)
There are many reasons why I think our relationship works so well – not least because we took a Google Quiz that said we’re both Woolly Mammoths! We approach life’s problems in the same way and have the same attitude towards embracing life and being proactive.’
