eharmony Love Stories: Simon and Caroline
Simon and Caroline met on eharmony in December 2012 and married in August 2015. Here they talk us through their love story
‘I’d been single for six months when I saw an advert for eharmony on TV and thought I’d give it a go. I’d tried Match.com and Plenty of Fish before but feel that eharmony matches people better thanks to the information you provide in the initial set-up.
When I saw Caroline’s profile, I liked her photos immediately and saw that we shared an interest in fitness. We matched in late December 2012 and arranged our first date for 6th January 2013. We initially arranged to meet for a coffee in Leeds but got on so well that we decided to get tea in a restaurant, which then turned into a night of drinking in various bars around the city.
We didn’t stop talking after that and met up at least twice a week. Things moved pretty quickly; I moved in with Caroline that July, we had our first holiday together in Barcelona in August, found out we were going to have a baby in October, and I proposed in November!
The night I proposed, we’d arranged to go out for a friend’s 21st birthday bash in Leeds and go to a burlesque show at the Wardrobe – we were even wearing fancy dress! We decided to go for a meal together first at Carluccio’s; I proposed just before dessert arrived.’
‘Although I’d tried the Single Parents dating site in the past, I’d been single for about a year before joining eharmony. I saw an advert online and thought I’d try taking the Relationship Questionnaire. There was one photo of Simon that really stood out to me straightaway and I thought he looked like a nice, friendly person. I think we had an instant connection.
I always joke that I can’t remember most of our first date as we had a little too much to drink, but I’ll never forget Simon taking a phone call from his five-a-side football mates during our romantic meal! After our first date things moved fast, we first said ‘I love you’ in March and by April he’d met most of my friends and my whole family.
We married just over three years after our first date, at Rogerthorpe Manor House in Badsworth. It was an amazing day, and everything ran smoothly. As well as my son Jack, we have two children together. I fell pregnant with our first child, Sophie, in October 2013 and our second, Luke, in August 2014. We didn’t find out the sex of our first child, so we had a few names prepared but we did know we were going to have a boy second time around. Simon kept going on about naming him Hector but, thankfully, we agreed on Luke when he was born.
I think our relationship works because we’re really understanding of each other. We’ve got similar interests, the same values, and similar personalities. In the next five years, we hope to own our own home. Simon’s finishing college soon – he’s training as an electrician – so hopefully that’ll mean a new career for him too.’
