Karen and Matt
I joined e-harmony through the recommendation of 2 colleagues. What did I have to lose? Not much. So, I filled out all of the questionnaires, posted a photo, paid my £34.95 and off I went. Early on I received the match from Matt and I know that I was attracted to his interesting and intriguing and down to earth profile. We followed the path of guided communication and the intrigue in each other continued. Shortly after we had reached open communication, Matt left me a message saying he was going off to Malta sailing that if I wanted to get in touch I should drop him a text. I was just about to head off to Capetown for work but did exactly that. I don't think he actually expected me to follow through but this guy sounded like he has a lot of energy and that was what I was looking for. I also loved the unusual profile picture that he had posted (I have a keen interest in photography). Turns out it was taken whilst he was sailing which is one of his strongest passions.
Matt and I met up shortly after he returned from a sailing race in Malta and the day after I had completed a 6 hour bike ride for charity. The first day was the best date that I have ever had and a little bit out of the ordinary. We climbed up the 311 steps of Monument in London [I don't think Matt expected me to make it after having cycled for so long]. Never one to back out of a challenge, I keenly accepted the invite and having made it to the top we then spent 5 hours chatting with each other in a cosey little pub in Islington. In the end it was me that called our first date to a finish late on the Sunday evening.
We went from date to date and we both only operate in one gear being fifth! Our dates were always exciting and fun and our fourth date was signified by me inviting Matt to join me in climbing Mt Kilimanjaro - which, by the way, we both completed in July of this year!!!
Our relationship is now just over 11 months old - we met on November 1st 2009 and have had an exhilarating 11 months together. I have met and become part of Matt's family and he followed me to Australia to meet my family and attend my sister's wedding in May. My three sisters had us married off well before we knew it and little did I know that my father, now deceased, said that I was always going to end up with an Englishmen. I guess he knew better than me!
Our relationship has been natural and strong from the start. Quite recently, Matt whisked me away to Venice for a weekend with the instructions that I needed a head lamp, my swimmers and a dress. Little did I know that after spending a day enjoying the sites of Venice, we were to return to London...on the Orient Express. Matt and I seem to have a signature of enjoying good champagne (and I don't even drink that much) but in our cabin was a bottle along with some nibbles and a note that said for my scarecrow (one of his nick names for me). We were getting ready for a evening meal - all dressed in evening attire when Matt told me that something was missing....in his hand, between our bodies was something....I was too scared to even look as I then knew it was a ring....all I could do to stop myself falling was to grab hold of him and kiss him - I was speechless. Eventually though I told him that I could only spend the rest of my life with him - whether that be in England or Australia.
He has held my hand from the start and I will continue to hold onto his. I truly believe that he is the only man for me and that we will have a long and wonderful life together. Every day I consider myself so very lucky to have joined E-Harmony and have had the good fortune to have been matched with Matt. I don't really believe in soul mates but I have travelled the world for many years now and I never thought I could meet someone as perfect for me as Matt.
My subscription to E-Harmony cost me £34.95 - and I can honestly say it was the best investment I have ever made.Matt and I plan to marry August 20 2011 in the UK and there will be family and friends with us from all over the world!
