Barry and Kirsten
Barry: “Having been single for most of my twenties and numerous failed attempts on dating sites my Mum told me about eHarmony and my search for love began.
The 2nd of October 2009 was a day that would change my life forever. That was the moment that I received communication from Kirsten and I began to hope. I was currently an unpaid member reviewing my matches for free when eHarmony’s email came through saying Kirsten had requested communication. I quickly paid up my £34.95 which would turn out to be the best £34.95 I would ever spend.
After viewing Kirsten’s profile I was immediately drawn to her. We went through the eHarmony process from guided communication to open email which took a few weeks. After getting to know each other better we decided to talk on the phone. Not long after we arranged to meet in Bristol which is in between where we both live. Our first date was on the 6th December 2009, just before Christmas. The upcoming weeks were very exciting and we could not wait to finally meet and have the best Christmas we could each hope for.
Before we knew it that day finally came and I travelled from Manchester and Kirsten came up from Cornwall. I arrived a little early and was walking around the station quite anxiously waiting for Kirsten’s train to get in. I was pleased when it arrived on time. I immediately spotted Kirsten getting off the train and my heart skipped a beat. I gave her a hug and we then went to a nearby café at the station to have lunch. The more we chatted the more we realised how perfect we were for each other. After lunch we spent the next few hours talking and wandering around Bristol in the rain. Kirsten took me by surprise and kissed me which was really nice. As the day drew to an end we both said we wanted to leave eHarmony and meet again. I kissed Kirsten goodbye we both headed back home with huge smiles after a perfect first date.
We met again in Bristol on a snowy January 5th which made the past month probably the longest in our lives. The weather was so bad I thought I wasn’t going to make my train so I jumped out of my brother’s car when it got stuck and ran the rest of the way to the station! It was difficult for the both of us to be so far apart but with phone calls, emails and now a webcam we knew there was a special chemistry and just looked forward to seeing each other a few times each month and sometimes for a weekend.
This went on for the next six months and during this time I told Kirsten I loved her and she felt the same. Each time we met in Bristol we would enjoy a nice meal and laugh and joke and have fun looking around the mall. The more times we met the harder it was to say goodbye. Kirsten then came up to Manchester in April for a week to meet my family for the first time and they loved her. It was then my turn to go and meet Kirsten’s family in Cornwall for a week in May. They gave me a warm welcome and I got on with them straight away. Having now spent a week together in Manchester and Cornwall we knew that we wanted more than just meeting up in Bristol every few weeks.
We really wanted to be together so we made the decision that I would transfer with work and I moved to Cornwall at the end of June to live with Kirsten and her family. We are now happier than ever that we get to see each other every day and are looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together. We’re currently saving for our own house.
I took Kirsten to the Lake District for our 2nd year anniversary. We stayed in a little boat house on Lake Ullswater which was absolutely beautiful. It was very snowy and wintery up there. I proposed to Kirsten on the balcony of the boat house on the 6th December, which I’d planned for months. It went perfectly well and she said yes straight away. We had a nice celebration meal in the evening together and couldn’t wait to get back and tell our family who were absolutely thrilled. We had tears from both sides of the family. We are going to celebrate with my family over Christmas and Kirsten's family at New Year which will make them both extra special. We can't wait to start planning our wedding in the New Year which will take place in Cornwall.
Thank you eHarmony for helping us find each other, we have found everything we were looking for and a whole lot more. We are a perfect fit and don’t work without the other. We still can’t believe this has happened to us and we wish future eHarmony members the same success.”
