Andrew and Joyce
Joyce: “I joined eHarmony because I was always so busy. I had two jobs, one full-time and one part-time, worked really long hours and I only got the chance to go out with my friends about once a month. I chose eHarmony because I thought it would fit in with my busy life and help me find someone who suited me.
Andrew and I were matched in July 2010 and after the guided communications and emails we had our first date on the 28th August. The guided discussion process was really useful. It made it easy to get to know the other person without any pressure and by our first date we felt as though we’d known each other for a long time. It also allowed us to see how similar our values were, which was an important factor for both of us.
We met for our first date in Worcester and soon realised that we found talking to each other just as easy in person. We went to a restaurant where I ordered the spiciest meal on the menu and then ate with my hands, as is culturally normal for me. I thought I might as well show Andrew what to expect! I was really pleased that Andrew also ordered a spicy meal and enjoyed it. I just can’t imagine a meal without chili!
Although we got along really well, we both agreed that it wasn’t love at first sight. In fact after our first date Andrew sent me an email saying he didn’t feel the ‘spark’ between us, but in all honesty neither of us really knew what the spark was actually meant to feel like! We were attracted to each other no doubt, but we both felt that might not be enough of a basis to start a relationship.
Regardless, we decided to meet again and due to a couple of issues I ended up being over an hour late. Andrew waited around for me patiently and that’s when I knew he was a keeper! Our relationship went from there. I met most of Andrew’s family in the October and we decided to move in together a short while afterwards. I relocated from Worcester to live with Andrew even though I still had to travel to Birmingham for work, which was hard at times but worth it. I was thrilled when Andrew proposed while we were on holiday in the spring of 2011.
We got married in Nigeria last October and also had a traditional British wedding in Wales on the 7th April. We bought our own house just before the wedding and we now can’t wait to fill it with our very own family.”
