Sarah-Jane and Rob
Sarah-Jane: “I think I knew he was special at the start, just from reading his profile. He was funny, witty, a seemingly talented musician (which I can now confirm he is) and just a generally interesting person.
I made the first move by sending him a smile and from there we were emailing several times a day for a couple of weeks before swapping numbers, and met up a few weeks after that. I was so nervous before he arrived in case we met and there was no chemistry but as soon as he got out of his car, I was beaming; he was so handsome! We went walking at Gunnerside in North Yorkshire and had dinner in a cosy little village pub. We had a weekend planned but I unexpectedly had to go to hospital which ruined all the things I had planned. I didn’t think he should bother coming to see me but he did and he looked after me and he made sure we had a wonderful weekend despite the situation. I knew I loved him then and wanted to be with him all the time, and stop wasting so much time on the A1!
In November, I quit my job and moved 186 miles to be with Rob. Some people thought I was crazy but the people who knew me well had never seen me so happy and thought Rob was as brilliant as I did. Everyone could see what effect we had on each other and even felt it themselves when they were in our company (and they still do). We have bought a house together which was completely stripped so we are working on it completely from scratch.
I had been hinting about marriage for a few months (like leaving pages of rings I liked open on his iPad) and he kept saying it wouldn’t be long before he asked. I thought my birthday in July might have been the moment (he had a surprise for me, which turned out to be a trip down some caves) and when it didn't happen then, I thought the day we got the keys to our new house might have been another opportunity, but it didn't transpire on that occasion either.
One day, I was rushing around and so late for work, not feeling very well either, Rob was fussing over me and insisting that I eat breakfast, getting engaged was the very last thing on my mind. I was so late, I thought I would have to grab my make up and do it on the way to work. Luckily I didn’t as when I opened up my makeup bag, I spied a little black box. Rob says that my face was a picture! I was confused at first, then when I realised, I screamed! He asked me to marry him and of course I said yes! I had to leave him so quickly to get to work which was torture! We went out for a meal that evening to an intimate Mediterranean restaurant in Darlington. It turns out he’d bought the ring the day before and couldn’t wait any longer but he did ask my dad for permission first which I thought was so sweet. I find the proposal very romantic as it totally caught me off guard, and he clearly knows my routine very well. It wasn’t a grand, showy gesture, but he was so romantic and it was definitely different!
No date is set yet but we know we don't want a traditional wedding, I am happy to get married barefoot in a field and throw a huge party, festival style, with all of our loved ones.
We would never have met without eHarmony and I feel like the luckiest person in the world and pinch myself for finding my perfect match who makes me smile every day.”
