Linda and Damian
Damian: “I was introduced to Linda via eHarmony on the 17th June 2010. Instantly I thought, ‘there’s no way I’m tall enough for this lady,’ as Linda is rather strikingly tall and I’m just not! However, we started to talk and I started to look forward to all of Linda’s emails which were long, eloquent and thoughtfully constructed. We arranged our first date and Linda told her friends at the time that it would just be one drink as I’d told her that I intended to turn up on my motorcycle, something which she was initially quite unimpressed with!
I was immediately intimidated by how lovely Linda was as I walked across the car park to meet her for the first time. Then I wished I’d dressed more smartly and come in the car! I remember at the end of our first date Linda asked if we could meet again and I couldn’t say yes fast enough, jumping at the chance. I made sure I turned up in a suit for our second meeting!
Neither of us were in a rush and we didn’t even kiss until our fourth date, but once we started we found it hard to stop! Despite Linda being sure she wanted someone without children, and someone taller, we began to see more of each other in the coming months. I introduced Linda to my daughters and we began to enjoy spending time together as a group.
In that November Linda organized a black-tie, surprise party for me with some of my closest friends and I was quickly falling in love. I suspected that Linda was weakening when she agreed to introduce me to her mother, despite insisting that ‘it didn’t mean anything’! Our first Christmas together was entirely magical. Linda gave me the keys to her flat and we entered a new phase in our relationship.
Since then we’ve tried each other’s hobbies with me learning to dance and ride horses and Linda trying motorcycles and photography. We went on a narrowboat holiday with my daughters in the summer of 2011 and this really helped to cement things well.
One day in September last year I produced a ring and asked Linda to marry me. She burst into tears and agreed very quickly. They were good tears of course! I’d bought the ring a couple of weeks earlier after conspiring with Linda’s mum on the phone.
Unfortunately, last Christmas Linda was very poorly but I was of course as supportive as I could be. Linda tells me that it was over those few weeks that she became certain that she’d made the right decision. She knew then that I’d always be there for her regardless of circumstance.
We were married in May and shared a memorable day with friends and family. It included having our guests serenading us with a Beatles number, a helicopter ride and speeches that mixed laughter and tears. We both can’t believe our luck!”
