Ruth and Kevin
Ruth: “Kevin and I started talking on eHarmony just after Christmas 2009. Both of us were talking to quite a few people but we felt like we had a connection. He wrote about helping his family out which I loved as I have a big family who are very close. At the end of January we exchanged numbers and began texting but through one thing or another we couldn't set a date to meet. The texts faded and I thought ‘oh well that’s the end of that’. I went on a couple of dates with others and they were all not up to much. At the beginning of March I decided to send Kevin an email through eHarmony. It might have been a stab in the dark, he could have been seeing someone else by then but as I had requested he sent me a text by the end of the day.
We arranged a date. Kevin agreed to come over to me as I was nervous to travel to Leeds to meet a complete stranger. I was excited about the meeting and a little nervous. We met in a pub for a drink just up the road from me. As soon as I walked in the pub I saw Kev and thought he was gorgeous, tall, well built - the kind of guy you would always feel safe around. The date went well, we seemed to have loads in common and the time flew by with hardly any silences in the conversation. He offered me a second drink but I refused as it was getting late (he told me later that he took this as a sign I did not like him but this was not the case). He walked me to my car but there was no good night kiss, neither of us knew what to do. As I drove home I had butterflies in my stomach and I couldn't stop grinning. What a great guy, I couldn't wait to see him again. As soon as I got home I text him and he text back saying he wished he had kissed me. We went on second date two days later. I felt like I was floating on air, I had met someone really special. From then we were inseparable and I could not live without him.
Kev proposed on the 28th November 2010. We had discussed getting engaged and looked at rings together but I had no idea where and when he would do it. We went for a walk on the Sunday afternoon in a local nature reserve. We climbed up a hill and as we reached the top, it started snowing. It looked beautiful, the snow failing and all the street lights lit as dusk fell and he got down on one knee in the snow and asked me and of course I said yes.
Don't think that over the last 20 months everything has being plane sailing, of course we disagree from time to time but what is amazing is I have found someone who is so like minded, we finish each other's sentences and do things at the same time. Our family and friends can see how much happier we are together than we ever were apart and they are all so excited to share our wedding with us. We’re so excited to make a life-time commitment, buy a house, have children and face all that life brings with our best friend by our side.”
