Helen and Rhys
Helen: “I joined eHarmony because I was tired of being approached by men in bars and clubs and starting conversations that just went nowhere. I hadn’t tried online dating before but liked the privacy that eHarmony offered me and I liked how I didn’t feel pressurized to replying to any of my matches that I didn’t want to speak to.
Rhys and I were matched on eHarmony in April 2010 and both got on well immediately. We went through the communications quite quickly and started to learn more about each other. One day Rhys sent me an email asking if I knew his sister as she lived and worked in St. Helens, where I lived at the time. Rhys told me she also worked in the probation service like me. It soon became apparent that I not only worked with Rhys’s sister but was actually her good friend and about to be her bridesmaid the following August! I remembered Helen telling me about her brother, Rhys who she was going to set me up with at her wedding, but I hadn’t met any of her family at that stage because they lived in Blackpool. Rhys couldn’t believe that I was his sister’s friend ‘Helen from work’.
After we got over the initial shock we decided to meet up but also decided not to tell Rhys’s sister at first. We’d been getting on so well so we didn't want to put pressure on each other, or upset his sister if in fact it didn’t work out. We met up in St. Helen’s and it was the first time either of us had met any of our matches from eHarmony so we were really nervous. We went for a meal and talked for hours and hours.
That first date was two and a half years ago. Rhys proposed next to the Christmas tree last Christmas, we’re now engaged and I gave birth to our beautiful son Robert on the 28th June this year. We can’t wait to be married.”
