Kate and John
John: “I’d ended my relationship in the New Year period and rather than get down at a very positive and happy time of year, I made the decision to start searching for that special someone.
I decided to give eHarmony a go as it seemed a lot more detailed than other dating sites that I had seen advertised, and you seemed to care more about matching people up who really clicked. I thought it was a very positive sign that there was so much information to provide and questions to answer, rather than just "I'm a man seeking a woman".
When I was matched with Kate, her profile immediately stood out as I just thought she was incredibly beautiful. Reading her profile I got the impression that she was also a very kind and gentle person. At this stage alarm bells started ringing, as I was almost certain that she was well out of my league!!
Luckily for me we got chatting and got on like a house on fire! I really felt that we were developing a great connection before we had even laid eyes on each other in real life! Our first date was in the slightly un-romantic location of the arrivals hall at Stansted Airport, as I met Kate for the first time when she got off her return flight from France.
I was very nervous as I waited for her and I can remember feeling instantly attracted to her. Our first date went well over a couple of drinks and we said our goodbyes. I think looking back I may have played it a bit too cool, as Kate has subsequently told me that she thought I didn't want to see her again. In actual fact I couldn't wait to see her again! Valentines flowers were sent to her office and we've never looked back since!
We had not been together for very long before it dawned on me how lucky I was and that I wanted Kate to be my wife. I think we both knew already that we wanted the same thing. I took Kate to the grounds of the Audley End House, an English Heritage property close to Saffron Walden, on the pretence that we were going for a stroll in the Spring sunshine. I found a secluded spot under an amazing old tree and got down on one knee to pop the question. Kate immediately said yes and we were both overwhelmed with happiness. It was just one of those perfect moments in life. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and the flowers were blooming everywhere.
I felt no nerves at all, just sheer happiness that the beautiful woman who has become my best friend wanted to be my wife.”
Kate: “Like John, Just after New Year’s Day, my ex partner and I split up and I decided to give eHarmony a go to find someone special and right for me. I really liked John’s profile, he seemed genuine and we had a lot of things in common, so we started emailing each other. I actually stopped emailing my other matches because John quickly became who I was interested in.
We met at Stansted because I’d been in France visiting my mum the whole time that we were messaging, so we met up as soon as we were in the same country. I was so nervous and it didn’t help that I was running so late I nearly missed my flight. I was urging my mum to drive me to the airport as fast as possible while also texting John saying that if I did miss my flight, it definitely wasn’t an excuse to get out of not seeing him – I was worried he’d think I was making it up! Thankfully, I made my flight, and when I sat down I realised that I was going to be meeting John for the first time and I realised how nervous I was! It was a good date, we got on well but I remember thinking that I wasn’t sure if he wanted to see me again. He didn’t try to kiss me goodbye and I really wanted him to!
Our relationship has since gone from strength to strength. We’ve met each other’s families, bought a house together, and got engaged! We both know that we’re meant to be and want to spend the rest of our lives together. We’re getting married in July next year, everything is planned; we’re ready and eagerly waiting for the big day!"
