Steve and Beverley
Steve: “I’d been on a few of the other dating sites for a while and was getting very fed up with the type of women I was meeting and the dates I was going on. It wasn’t what I thought at all. I didn’t know much about eHarmony but I remember seeing an advert on TV and it said something about how you don’t scroll through loads of profiles looking at people, but they actually send you matches who they think you would be compatible with. This sounded like something worth trying! I really liked the in depth personality questionnaire and realised how eHarmony works and how they match you. It felt so professional and warm and significantly different to the others I’d tried.
I saw Bev’s profile within a few days of joining but I didn’t contact her because she was so beautiful and I didn’t think for a second that she would be interested in me. I’m glad I got over that thought and contacted her though because she replied and we really hit it off. We spoke for a couple of months before meeting up and there was something special about her; it made the first date quite nerve-racking because I knew I liked her a lot. Our first date was fabulous and I fell in love with her smile. We went on a three mile walk and then for lunch, which went on so long we also had dinner together that evening. We met up for a second time a few months later due to our busy schedules but after that date we saw each other every week and as often as we could.
Our relationship just got better and better and we couldn’t get enough of each other. I took her away for a romantic weekend for her birthday last year and we talked about marriage. We felt so connected and we both wanted to get married again. We walked around the village shops and looked at some rings but Bev knew the style she wanted and we didn’t find it until another few weekends later – a heart shaped diamond. When we found it, we sent it off to get altered and the ring arrived a few weeks later. I spoke to Bev’s father and her two sons before officially proposing and they were all on board and her sons helped me plan it! They were out having lunch together and they said they had a surprise for her and put a blindfold over her eyes! I think she knew at this point that it was coming from me. They took her to the place where we had our first date; I was waiting for her with the ring and proposed. Of course, she said yes! We all went for a celebration dinner at the restaurant where we had dinner on our first date.
A year later, we got married and had the reception in the same restaurant as our first date and our engagement meal. That venue and the whole area has so much sentimental value to us and the day was absolutely perfect; it ran like clockwork and we had all of our family involved. My daughter was a bridesmaid, Bev’s son’s band played and a good friend of mine was the photographer. We also treated ourselves to a luxury stretch limousine for transport and it was amazing!
We are so happily married and I am so grateful that we found each other!”
