Since being founded in 1207, Liverpool has come a long way, and is now the fourth largest city in the UK. Famed for its docks, driving much of the industry in the area, Liverpool is now a modern, cultural city. Its port also means it has a very diverse population, making Liverpool an exciting, ever-changing place to live.
In Liverpool you'll find everything from cutting-edge contemporary architecture to Tudor buildings. The city also has more public sculptures than any other area of the UK (apart from Westminster), so there is always something new to see. And, if you get tired of the urban area, the nearby Wirral peninsula is an area of great natural beauty, meaning you’re only ever a stone's throw from the sea or rolling countryside.
With its fascinating patchwork of history, merging with the vibrancy of an expanding, lively city, there’s certainly no shortage of places to take a date in Liverpool. Whether you choose to play at being tourists and wander around the famed Albert Dock (also home to the Tate), or opt for some culture at the Walker Art Gallery, dating in Liverpool can be anything you want it to be!
If you’re not familiar with all that the city has to offer, you’re new to online dating in Liverpool or just need some inspiration about what to do with your new match on that first date, here are some top ideas.
For shopping: If you didn’t know that Liverpool is host to Europe’s biggest shopping centre, you do now…and this is it! Liverpool 1 is a vast but stylish development in the heart of the city and has fast become one of the principle entertainment /shopping hot spots for day-trippers and professionals, locals and visitors alike. If you and your date love a bit of retail therapy, this place is a shopping heaven, encompassing a vast array of fashion, ranging from urban styles to boutique and designer labels.
For film lovers and foodies: Also boasting a 14 screen Odeon cinema complex, complete with IMAX® screen, immerse yourselves in a full-on film experience. Just make sure you go out for a nice meal, or drink afterwards, to share what you thought of it, and get to know your match better! You’ll find plenty of cosy cafes and restaurants, with a huge choice of culinary styles to pick from.
For chilling out: If shopping isn’t quite your thing, though, Liverpool 1 isn’t just any under-one- roof mall. Its cutting edge design means it has been pleasantly integrated into the city centre, which means you’re free to stroll along its streets, into Chavasse Park. This green oasis comprises 5 acres of landscaped gardens, where you are bound to find a quiet corner to canoodle in. Here, you will also find an 18ft statue of John Lennon, given as a gift to the people of Europe and named the ‘Peace and Harmony’ monument. What better spot to seal your eHarmony date with a kiss?
Sefton Park
If you fancy spending time somewhere a little less commercial, try Sefton Park. Set away from the busy central area, it consists of 250 acres of green space, while still being within walking distance of the heart of the city. Its most obvious feature is its huge botanical glasshouse, which is definitely worth a wander around. And if the weather’s nice, why not treat your date to a romantic picnic by the boating lake? You can even hire a boat here in the summer months.
For more intrepid couples, the park also has some fascinating caves or ‘grottos’, as they’re known, to explore. Apparently they are the park’s hidden gems, but you might want to leave this activity until the second date, if you don’t want to risk messing up your new-date outfit!
The Mersey
Aside from crossing this famed river in a ferry, there are many beautiful walks all along its banks. Depending on how far you want to go, you can get right out into the countryside, but you can drop down to it from Sefton Park quite easily on foot. Make your way back into the city centre via pretty St Michaels, which has some rather lovely old buildings, or head ‘down the lane’, that is Lark Lane, an ever popular area for a spot of dinner or a well-earned drink in one of the many pubs or restaurants there.
Finding love in Liverpool can be an exciting experience, but sometimes we all need a helping hand. With over 800,000 residents in the Liverpool area, looking for love can feel like an endless task. It might be relatively easy to meet people, but it’s the getting to know someone bit that's harder.

Sarah and Ryan are just one eHarmony's many success stories. They met mid-2007 and were married in January 2008 after a whirlwind romance. Ryan says of their first date: "Couldn't have been better - ended up with a lovely Motorway meal, an embarrassing discovery of half-eaten brownie, and a wonderful walk through Stratford. Arrived at my hotel (was going to drop her off at home later) to find they upgraded me to a suite -- complete with sauna! But the best part was, from the first time we saw each other (me: "she's small", her: "he's big") it really was like we were meant to be with each other. We shared a first kiss at another stop along the motorway (aren't we romantic!?)."
